| not exactly a 'thing', but this photo is meant to show Japanese culture |
Shall do some explaining.
I actually never went to Japan before. I can't speak Japanese. The closest I get to speaking Japanese was years back when I learn Japanese for 2 months (and had to stop because being too busy in JC).
However I listen to Japanese music around 2005 and started understanding some Japanese culture...which like a ripple, soon became a realisation of my love for cultures and understand societies and aspiration to travel and learning new languages as years go by. From starting to read about Japan in travel literatures, I go on to read a bit on some parts of Africa, North and South Korea, Pakistan etc. It is all these little discoveries about myself and what I like which made me decide on my current major in University and knowing that I want to be in the language prog and go on exchange. Also, I actually thought I wanted to do a second major in Japanese studies, which was my sole reason of wanting to go into a JC because I know eventually, I would want to be in NUS doing that. I did get into NUS FASS, but doing Japanese studies just won't happen now. haha.
This is the biggest impact on me, because it got me started step by step to knowing what I love, when I was a clueless, dumb 14-15 years old with no idea as to what is it that I really love and would want to pursue. It gave me something to work for long long time ago, which actually did came to be useful and contributed to what I have today I guess.
