Just my thoughts on local politics

Yep so here goes. I've been pretty quiet about politics although I try my best to read up, I have to admit my studies still matter more. =p Sorry if any of my information is inaccurate etc due to my inability to be totally in tune with SG general election.

Saw a really interesting article today: Would Jesus vote for the PAP?
hmmm.... this article is just for fun. The one that really interested me was this: 10 Reasons why I cannot vote for the PAP in the next election
I like his stand and reasoning as to why he think PAP should buck up instead of just trying to say that PAP is bad and oppositions should start ruling (that's honestly too simplistic a stance to take). I definitely like his take on how politics is not charity. Charity over here would mean that PAP was good and we owe our living to them thus we vote for them now, despite prevalent inefficiency which, well, we can ignore those inefficiencies because they were great before. Its akin to 'I still marry this guy despite him cheating on me, well, I can ignore the fact that he's cheating because he was a great boyfriend before'. yea right. So here, I'm agreeing with the fact that PAP was a good government and I have nothing much against an Authoritarian One-party state to be frank, but present context warrants PAP to become even better, to churn out leaders that cares for the people of all classes, whose goal is to serve Singaporean and that there ought to be something that checks and make sure the government is clean and efficient. Where's our free press that's suppose to be doing that?

I'm all for free press, protests and campaigns actually, more so than 2 party system and full democracy. I seriously think that would allow Singaporeans to be politicized and maybe feel like one Singapore; having a stake in the country and able to express our views openly. Initial fears for free press to be exploited to discriminate races is currently unjustified I feel. As a third generation Singaporean Chinese, I am no longer interested in being racist against Malays, Indians and so on.
Sadly by organizing such campaigns would be illegal and I am not for breaking the law. sigh.

Despite this post, people should not misunderstand that I'm a supporter of the opposition or for PAP. Don't ask me who I support now, its not my time yet to choose. :) Even if I am to vote for the opposition (which i sadly can't because I'm not 21 yet), it does not mean that I actually support the opposition to rule. Complicated stuff, glad I don't have to vote this year.
